The Rebels (28-14-2-2) will try to salvage something from this weekend as they pay a visit to Fruitvale to take on the Beaver Valley Nitehawks (22-20-1-4) this afternoon (1:00 PM, Beaver Valley Arena). It's the 8th and final regular season meeting between the two clubs. The Nitehawks are in a similar slump that has seen them fall out of contention for third place in the Neil Murdoch division, which means they'll draw the powerful Nelson Leafs in the first round of the playoffs. BV has lost 4 straight (although one of those games went to overtime), the most recent being a 6-3 setback in Fernie on Friday night.
The season series between these two teams couldn't be much more even: each team has 3 wins, 3 losses and a tie. Here's how it breaks down.
Sep. 11/09: Beaver Valley 3 @ 3 Castlegar
Sep. 19/09: Castlegar 2 @ 3 Beaver Valley
Oct. 23/09: Beaver Valley 2 @ 4 Castlegar

Castlegar's Ryan Aynsley leads all scorers (4-4-8) in the season series, but Beaver Valley has the two top scorers in the league in Scott Morisseau and Layne Stopanski. They have 7 and 5 points against the Rebels this season, respectively. Andrew Walton (3-2-1) has played all but one game in goal for Castlegar against the Nitehawks, while former Smoke Eater Paul Barclay has a 2-2 record against the Rebels since joining Beaver Valley from the BCHL's Surrey Eagles.
