Another morale-boosting win for Grand Forks (5-39-1-1) as they beat Beaver Valley (22-19-1-4) 7-4 at Grand Forks Arena.
Zachary Thompson had a 5 point night (1-4); Randy Tosoff, Chris Vinette and Gary Mahesh each had a pair of goals. Colton Donselaar had a pair for the Nitehawks, who also got singles from Layne Stopanski and Brett Naka. BV gave number one goalie Paul Barclay the night off. The Border Bruins also went 3-3 on the power play.
The boxscore is available here. My colleague Shawn Mullin will have Tosoff as his guest on Mountain FM's Overtime Thursday night, the show airs from 6-10 PM.
A tough loss for Beaver Valley as it now hinders their chances of catching third-place Spokane. The Braves hold on to their five-point lead and BV only has 1 game in hand, which they'll play Friday night against the league's top team, the Fernie Ghostriders. Three losses to Grand Forks this season really could be the difference between playing Nelson or Castlegar in the first round.
