Leafs Could Clinch Kootenay Conference Tonight

Game 5 between the Leafs and Fernie Ghostriders goes tonight (6:30 Pacific, Fernie Memorial Arena). The Leafs, after a pair of home wins, now lead the series 3-1 and head to the East Kootenay with a chance to wrap it all up in front of the Ghostrider faithful. My colleague Shawn Mullin will have the call beginning at 6:15 on Mountain FM. The Revelstoke Grizzlies are awaiting the winner of this series for a tangle in the KIJHL final.

The Leafs are battling the injury bug though. They lost Chris Cucullu during Game 4, adding to an injury list that already included Billy Faust, Sean Muller, Scott Jago and Connor McLaughlin, just to name a few. McLaughlin and Jarrett Burke could draw back into the lineup tonight.

Congrats to Ghostrider forward Brendan Mangone on being listed by the WHL's Spokane Chiefs. Check out the Ghostrider blog for more info.

Congrats as well to the Quesnel Millionaires on a terrific season. They fell in 6 games to the Vernon Vipers in the second round of the BCHL Fred Page Cup playoffs, but had a TON more success than anybody could have predicted. Of note, Rebels defenceman Darren Tarasoff played for Quesnel in one game of the Vernon series -- he spent the first half of 2009/10 with the BCHL's Williams Lake Timberwolves as well.

An update on the Chase situation. Gregg Drinnan now reports Chiefs owner Fred Pittendreigh as saying the team is not for sale. He's lost $100k over the past three seasons, he has been looking to sell the team to a community consortium and create a society much like we have here in Castlegar. Rumours persist however the team is on its way to Rutland for the 2010/11 season.
