Rebels 6 Leafs 2

A solid finale to the 2010 pre-season for the Castlegar Rebels tonight, as they won in Nelson by a count of 6-2. My news duties at Mountain FM prevented me from attending tonight's game, but my eye in the sky, Mountain FM's own Matt Soper, tells me it was a case of two completely different teams being on the ice. Nelson reportedly dressed a ton of youngsters as it was their first exhibition game. Rebels goaltender Andrew Walton stopped 20 of 21 shots in limited action, while forward Spencer Brodt was, in Matt's words, "in on goals" and fought as well. The Rebels finish the pre-season 4-0, but will get a real look at what Nelson has to offer in a home-and-home series Friday (7:30, Castlegar Complex) and Saturday (7:00, NDCC Arena).

The Roundup:
no result at time of writing from Fruitvale, where Grand Forks was in town. Kelowna shut out Sicamous 4-0, the Chiefs and their crop of ex-Leafs are definitely looking strong thus far.

Bits & Bites:
Nelson has signed a pair of former major midget players in Adam Wheeldon and Dallon Stoddart. Yes, Adam is the son of former coach Simon Wheeldon, who now co-coaches the major midget Kootenay Ice. Trail has 4 players on their opening-day roster who played in the KIJHL last season. They are goaltender Matt Larose (Nelson), and forwards Dylan Tappe (Spokane), Joey Baker (Beaver Valley), and Keenan Patershuk (Fernie).
