Walton Nominated for Player of the Month

The Castlegar Rebels have nominated goaltender Andrew Walton as their October Player of the Month. The 19 year-old local product went 6-2 in 8 starts last month, including two huge wins over the Fernie Ghostriders. Walton currently leads the KIJHL with a 1.98 goals against average, and now posts a career win-loss record of 56-27-3.

The other Neil Murdoch division nominees are: Ryon Sookro (Beaver Valley), Gavin Currie (Nelson), Jesse Collins (Spokane) and Zach Thompson (Grand Forks). A decision on the respective players of the month for the Kootenay and Okanagan Conferences will be made in the next few days.

AP Watch: Rebels defenseman Matt Ridley made his first BCHL appearance of the season last Saturday in the Westside Warriors' 5-3 win at Surrey.

Setting the Record Straight
: In an earlier post I mentioned the new defensemen in Grand Forks, Derek Grimm and Cody Larsen, had been placed on reserve. I see now the Bruins have straightened out their roster situation, and while Larsen is still out (with a case of strep throat I'm told), Grimm had an assist in last night's 5-2 win over Beaver Valley.

Bits & Bites: Fernie has named a new captain. Trail's Thomas Abenante will don the "C," taking over from Zach Baba. The Riders also acquired the rights to 16 year-old Stefan Burzan from the PIJHL's Delta Ice Hawks. Unfortunate news for the Revelstoke Grizzlies, they've lost 20 year-old Levi Hantula for the season with a knee injury.
