Nelson Signs Former BCHL Sniper

Thanks to Leafs play-by-play guy Matt Soper, I tweeted yesterday that forward Dustin Johnson did take the warmup against Spokane, but did not dress. I'm told insurance issues may have factored in that decision.

However, the 20 year-old is now on the Leafs' roster, and to say he'll provide an offensive boost is an understatement. He led BCHL Merritt in scoring last season (for a more in-depth statistical breakdown, head to Brian Wiebe's Merritt blog here).

Johnson is no stranger to the KIJHL. He scored 30 goals as a 17 year-old with the Summerland Sting in 2007-08.

The Rebels will get their first look at Johnson on January 25th at the NDCC Arena. There are a few games to get through before then, though, starting tomorrow at Beaver Valley (1:00, BV Arena). Stay tuned for the usual game-day package as Off The Wahl continues its brief sojourn to the coast. The twitter will be in full force for game updates, as with Tuesday as I'm planning to attend the game in Grand Forks on my way home.
