Rebels 4 Rockets 1

Tyler Jones scored 58 seconds into the third period, and Tyler Robinson and Erik Wentzel added insurance markers as the Rebels kicked off the weekend with a 4-1 win in Golden.

Jamie Vlanich and the Rockets' Keith Wake exchanged second-period power-play markers, and Cole Buckley stopped 23 shots to earn his fifth victory in a Rebel sweater.

The win was Castlegar's 30th this season as the club tries to keep pace with the other division leaders, Fernie, Osoyoos and Revelstoke.

Short Bench: Castlegar was without several vets tonight. Spencer Brodt again was out of the lineup, and defensemen Darren Tarasoff and Ryan Reid both missed the game as did Arthur Andrews.

More Accolades For #7: Word tonight that Stuart Walton has been named the Kootenay Conference Player of the Month for December, after being nominated as the Rebels rep earlier this week. I've had many a conversation with head coach Steve Junker about the 18 year-old local product, and I'll iterate again he's been a pleasant surprise to me this season, rounding into form after being cemented in the team's bottom 6 last year. Walton's Okanagan Conference counterpart this month is Coyotes 'tender Kyle Laslo.

Up Next:
A trip south to Invermere to face the Columbia Valley Rockies tomorrow night, although the club will have to navigate highways being mentioned in the news as being particularly sketchy with all the recent snow.

Out of Town: Nelson's trip to Fernie didn't go as well as they'd hoped. Josh Garneau had 4 points in a 7-1 Ghostriders shellacking. Notable, Dustin Johnson scored his second goal in as many games for the Leafs. Fernie went 5/11 on the power-play.
