Rebels 5 Nitehawks 1

Taylor Anderson scored twice, and Diego Bartlett and Spencer Brodt each had three-point nights as Castlegar rolled over Beaver Valley 5-1 at the Complex.

After falling behind 1-0 on a Ryon Sookro power-play goal, the Rebels stormed back with four first-period tallies as they shelled rookie netminder Zach Perehudoff with 16 shots. Anderson and Bartlett, the latter on a two-on-one, scored goals 31 seconds apart before the Rebels captain and Tyler Jones increased the lead with tallies 19 seconds apart just a few minutes later.

Alex Ross saved 23 of 24 Nitehawk shots for the victory.

Castlegar was without defensemen Mike Wiest and Erik Alden as well as forwards Arthur Andrews and Josh McGladery, but AP callups Joren Johnson and Darren Medeiros filled holes in the lineup admirably.

Nitehawks captain Colton Donselaar did not return to the game after taking a retaliatory double minor penalty against Brodt late in the second period. Beaver Valley was also without Derek Lashuk, Mason Spear and Justin Niminiken.

It was an impressive victory in front of a crowd much smaller than a typical Rebels/'Hawks matchup, though the two teams will meet twice more before the season finishes on February 12.

Up Next: Castlegar plays a home-and-home against the Nelson Leafs, beginning Friday at the NDCC Arena.
