The Smokies fell behind early, and the comeback was too little, too late as Vernon defeated Trail 4-2 in BCHL exhibition play tonight. The Vipers got goals from four different scorers: Jedd Soleway, Adam Tambellini, Marcus Basara and Mike Zalewski all beat Smokies goaltender Matt Larose, who made 23 saves in a losing effort.
Brent Baltus and Logan Proulx replied for Trail.
I wasn't at the game tonight, but the author of the Vipers Diehard Fan Blog was, he recounts the action terrificly here.
Up Next: The Smokies return home tomorrow to face Thompson Rivers University (7:00, Cominco Arena) in a fundraiser for Kolby Zanier. I encourage all of you to come out and help fill the barn for a very good cause.
Out of Town: The KIJHL opened up tonight; I took in the Nelson Leafs' 3-0 victory over Castlegar at the Complex. Patrick Martens scored twice for the Leafs and Andrew Walton collected the shutout in his Nelson debut against his former squad. Beaver Valley's Chris Derochie had three goals and three assists in the Nitehawks' 13-0 shutout in Grand Forks.
