When: Nov. 5, 7:00 PM
Where: Sunwave Centre, Salmon Arm
The Smokies begin a two-game jaunt through the Okanagan with a date in Salmon Arm this evening. Trail is coming off a 4-2 loss at home to Vernon last night, a game that saw the Smokies fall behind by 3 goals early only to recover with a strong final 40 minutes.
Tonight's game, if past encounters are any indication, should be another close affair. Both teams are trying to claw their way back into the Interior Conference's Top Four, and both are in need of points.
New Smoke Eater Connor Tiechko could make his debut with Trail tonight. The 19 year-old from Chilliwack joins the Smokies from Prince George, and has also played with Surrey and Nanaimo.
Last Meeting: On October 8th, the Smokies fired 40 shots at Salmon Arm netminder Kurt Williams, but a third-period tally from Stefan Nicolishen gave the Silverbacks a 3-2 victory.
Our Opponent: The Silverbacks have endured similar struggles to the Smokies, with only 3 wins to this point in the season (2 of which have come against Trail). Offensively, the trio of Morgan Zulinick, Bryce Gervais and Brett Knowles have carried much of the load, though it has been the Silverbacks' bottom 6 that have looked particularly dangerous, especially during the last meeting in Salmon Arm. The 'Backs lost 3-2 in Merritt last night.
Broadcast Info: I'll have the call on the Smokies' ustream channel beginning at 6:55. The Silverbacks will cover the pay-per-view end.
Local Hockey Tonight: All four of our local KIJHL teams are in action, with the centrepiece game taking place in Castlegar. Scott Morisseau makes his home debut as the Rebels host Beaver Valley (7:30, Complex). Nelson, fresh off a 4-2 loss in Princeton, visit the Kelowna Chiefs while Grand Forks is at Kimberley. Selkirk College will go for a weekend sweep of Eastern Washington University tonight in Cheney, WA. The Saints beat the Eagles 4-1 in Castlegar last night. In BCMML play, Kootenay opens a two-game set at home this afternoon against the Vancouver NE Chiefs (4:00, Cominco Arena).
