A three-team trade in the KIJHL involving Montrose's Alex Ross. The 19 year-old netminder is headed to the Summerland Steam in a deal that also involves the Osoyoos Coyotes.
In return, the Rebels receive goaltender Jordan Gluck. The 19 year-old from Scarsdale, New York has posted 6 victories in 11 appearances with an accompanying 2.86 GAA.
In 41 games with the Rebels, Ross posted a 27-9 record, 2.58 GAA and .905 save percentage. He was also named the 2011 Neil Murdoch division goaltender of the year. In "Rossco," the Steam get a real battler who is just as good-natured off the ice as he is a fierce competitor on it. Ross was always willing to run tape with me last season and will certainly be missed in Castlegar.
I chatted with Rebels head coach Steve Junker about the trade, that tape will run on Mountain FM this (Monday) afternoon and will be posted here tomorrow along with some other weekend tidbits.
Four players are also changing hands between the Steam and Coyotes including one-time Border Bruin callup Sam Nigg, who heads north to Summerland from the defending champs. In a twist of fate, the Rebels face both the Coyotes and the Steam away from home this weekend (Friday and Saturday).
Best of luck in Summerland Alex, we'll be watching!
