Who: Trail Smoke Eaters @ Chilliwack Chiefs
When: Jan. 28, 7:00 PM
Where: Prospera Centre, Chilliwack
An hour or so away from puck drop here at Prospera Centre, so a brief discussion on what's at hand.
The Smokies are in search of victory number three in a row, but will try for their first against a Chiefs club coming off a 4-1 win here last night against Merritt. Erik Cooper was a man possessed in last night's 5-4 overtime win at Surrey, putting up two goals and two assists for his second consecutive multi-point game.
The Fred Page Cup is on display tonight at Prospera, which should help provide a special atmosphere as the Smokies and Chiefs meet for the first of two meetings over the next seven days.
Last Meeting: Chilliwack took home a 5-2 decision in Trail on January 15th and have won all five meetings this season (the Smokies having collected an overtime point in their first visit here on October 28th).
Our Opponent: The Chiefs continue to battle alongside Prince George and Vernon in the Interior Conference's 3-4-5 spots, and have split their last two games entering tonight's affair. With two of the next three Chiefs games coming against Penticton, tonight's game is all the more important (to boot, Prince George hosts Vernon tonight as well). Leading scorer Derek Huisman will serve the second of his two-game suspension incurred earlier this week, while Trevor Hills returns from a one-game ban. Mitch Gillam will start in goal tonight while three AP players will also make the lineup.
In the Press Box: Trail's Shane Poulsen remains out while Adam Fares did not make the trip, the Smokies will dress AP defenseman Adrian Coulter (KIJHL Princeton) again this evening. For Chilliwack, Huisman, Jeremy Gossard and Mathieu Tibbet will miss out, with APs Matt Revel, Austin Edwards and Mitch Skapski drawing in.
