Smokies Acquire Mowat From Vernon

The Smoke Eaters have bolstered their blueline by acquiring 19 year-old rearguard Max Mowat from the Vernon Vipers.

Mowat, who represents the future considerations that were owed Trail from the Clayton Chessa trade in January, has tallied 25 points (3-22) through 2 BCHL seasons with the Vipers, and was a member of the Vernon team that reached the RBC Cup final in 2011.

The full release from the team is available here.

I chatted with head coach Bill Birks earlier this afternoon, he tells me Mowat will be counted on as a leader and mentor both on and off the ice, and will figure prominently on Trail's special teams units come the start of the 2012-13 season.

Mowat joins fellow Okanagan product Marley Keca as Trail's two 1993-born defensemen.

Welcome to the Smokies Max!
