Surrey goes after a second split in Prince George as the Eagles and Spruce Kings complete their regular-season series tonight at the Coliseum.
The Spruce Kings withstood a third-period charge from Surrey, winning 6-3 Friday thanks in part to a Brent Lashuk hat-trick, while the Eagles got goals from newcomers Anthony Conti and Chase McMurphy after a slow start. Conti, picked up from Penticton last weekend in the Nic Pierog trade, has scored in each of his two games as an Eagle thus far.
The Eagles have had their struggles away from home this season, but can take inspiration from their last visit to Prince George in mid-November. After losing the first game of that two-game series 7-1, Surrey found a way to win the second matchup, posting a 2-1 triumph the following evening.
Last Meeting: With last night's 6-3 Prince George win, the season series between the two teams now stands even with both teams earning 3 wins and a tie.
Our Opponent: The Spruce Kings kept pace with first-place Langley by collecting the two points Friday, and remain seven points back of the Rivermen though the two teams meet five times next month. While Lashuk was the centre-piece on Friday's game sheet, the Spruce Kings found balanced scoring Friday, and goaltender Alex Murray turned in a strong effort between the pipes to keep Surrey at bay. Despite being one of only six BCHL teams to reach the 50-point mark this season, the Spruce Kings' power-play is ranked last in the 16-team circuit, and went 0/3 Friday.
In the Press Box: Forwards Jonah Renouf and Colton Mackie miss out for the Eagles, while new Prince George rearguard Cooper Rush is also out.
